Description

This 45-hour course is approved by the State of Maine as a “Trade-Related” elective for the Journeyman Program and is a hands-on course, designed to be taken only in a classroom. This course begins mostly academic and introductory in nature, with a look at NFPA 72, characteristics of fire alarm systems, and components. Students will get hands-on experience wiring a basic circuit for simple output devices and installation of smokes, horns, strobes, etc., in order to gain basic familiarization with equipment. This course will rapidly shift from academic in nature to hands-on as the primary method of instruction. Students will do a “take-off,” create a riser from a floor plan, create a submittal package, and review occupancy classes. By the end of the course, students will fully design, build, and install a complete Fire Alarm System from a set of documents provided.

Prerequisites: Basic Electricity I, Basic Electricity II, NFPA 72 Handbook (recommended)
